The Marin Builders Association has been working diligently to promote licensed contractors. This commercial was made in an effort to warn the homeowners who might be hiring an unlicensed contractor that they might be signing up for disaster. Often unlicensed contractors leave a job without completing it, take homeowners hard earned money and disappear and frequently produce shoddy work. Most importantly it is illegal for them to operate without a license.
The first concept for this commercial was based around Unlicensed Contractors, but after a few versions of the spot we all decided that rather than sending the message out that Unlicensed Contractors were bad, we collectively decided to promote Licensed Contractors. There are many licensed contractors that have insurance and are bonded. The most important part of this message was "Protect you most valued investment, hire a Licensed Contractor."
When creating the schedule with our Comcast Rep, our goal was to reach both contractors and homeowners. We feel we were able to do that by selecting a range of channels available on Comcast. The channels this commercial appears on range from Fox News to The Food Network, HGTV, Style Channel and others. The spots can also be seen during the Giants Baseball game as well as the Oakland A's Game.
